Cherry Valley Resident Wins Award

Cherry Valley, Ark., resident Stacey Halk, RN, BSN, was honored with the "New Center Clinical Manager of the Year Award" for her work at the Wound Healing Center at St. Bernards Medical Center.

The award is from National Healing Corporation (NHC), a leader in disease management which accounts for 20 percent of managed and outsourced wound healing centers nationwide. The winners of the annual NHC awards are based on data from clinical measures reported from its centers.

Halk led her team at the Wound Healing Center at St. Bernards Medical Center to enhance patient care by reducing the time it takes to heal wounds and increasing the number of patients who had their long-term chronic wounds healed within four months. Earlier this year, the Wound Healing Center at St. Bernards Medical Center was recognized with the NHC "New Center of the Year" Award.

NHC Senior Vice President of Clinical Services Katherine J. Rowland presented the award saying, "The Wound Healing Center at St. Bernards Medical Center has been open less than a year and is already at the forefront of wound care. A number of underlying conditions such as diabetes, vascular disease and radiation exposure contribute to chronic wounds making each one unique. Stacey's leadership and the exceptional work of her entire team has resulted in enhanced diagnosis and individualized treatments of chronic wounds."

The center utilizes state-of-the-art therapies including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, bio-engineered tissue substitutes and vacuum-assisted closure.

Accepting the award at the NHC awards dinner in San Diego, Halk said, "This was a team effort. Since our opening 11 months ago, we have all worked very hard to enable our patients to live more comfortable and full lives. We look forward to serving the community for years to come."

The Wound Healing Center at St. Bernards Medical Center specializes in the treatment of chronic wounds and non-responsive conditions and offers hospital-based outpatient wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well as disease management and diabetes care.
