CHANDLER, Ariz. - Florida-based National Healing Corporation (NHC) has named Mesa resident Paul L. Vaughn, M.D., F.A.C.S. to its medical advisory board to serve as a resource for the company's wound healing centers, which account for 23 percent of the nation's managed and outsourced wound healing centers.
A vascular and endovascular surgeon, Vaughn is also medical director of Chandler Wound Healing Center, an award-winning NHC wound healing center. In his new additional role on the firm's board, Vaughn will consult with the medical directors and physicians at NHC Wound Healing Centers throughout the country. He will be responsible for reviewing new centers' clinical activities, including patient treatments and outcomes, as well as training center physicians.
Vaughn's other responsibilities will include reviewing materials intended for publication and assisting and advising NHC on various research and educational materials. Through its research partnership with The Ohio State University Medical Center, NHC supports product-neutral, multi-center studies. The firm is currently involved with an ongoing study that aims to screen the human genome to identify patterns of gene expression present in wound tissue cells. Later this year, NHC will begin an FDA-approved clinical trial researching the effectiveness of a treatment for chronic venous insufficiency ulcers.
NHC CEO James E. Patrick made the announcement saying, "This is an era of great advances in wound care. Paul has the vision and leadership to stay on the cutting edge of the field, combined with a depth of knowledge and clinical experience, which makes him an essential member of our medical advisory board. The excellent care and superb wound healing outcomes that Chandler Wound Healing Center has provided to the community under his leadership proves that he is eminently qualified to work with our physicians nationwide and assist them in delivering the most appropriate treatment to our patients."
One of National Healing Corporation's preeminent wound healing centers, Chandler Wound Healing Center has won numerous NHC awards since opening in 2003. Most recently, the center received the firm's 2006 Outstanding Clinical Project, Clinical Indicator Pacesetter and Clinical Manager of the Year Awards.
In addition to his work with NHC, Vaughn continues private practice at Arizona Vascular Surgery Consultants, P.C., and Desert Vascular Imaging, L.L.C., in Mesa. Vaughn specializes in limb salvage; he has extensive experience in both traditional and newer, less-invasive techniques. His other clinical interests include carotid artery interventions and aortic reconstruction for aneurysm and occlusive disease.
Vaughn is board certified in vascular and general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. A diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, he is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
