Wound Care Academic Partnerships
In creating Centers of Excellence for Wound Healing, National Healing Corporation
brings the latest advances to its managed wound centers through partnerships with
leading academic institutions.
The Ohio State University
With outpatient wound centers in two locations, Ohio State's Comprehensive Wound
Center has approximately 1,300 patient visits per month.
The managed wound centers are a hub for wound sciences and care, a place where National
Institutes of Health-funded basic research
leads to clinical trials as the fundamental principles of wound healing,
starting at the genetic level, are translated from the lab to the bedside.
As an industry leader holding The Joint Commission Certification for Wound Care,
NHC is an official partner of the Wound Healing Research Program at The Ohio State
University in Columbus. NHC is proud to be a part of one of the largest grants ever
received by the University in which researchers in partnership with Nationwide Children's
Hospital received a $34 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to
create a center to develop clinical and translational protocols that help identify
and advance treatments for patients.
The National Healing Institute on The Ohio State University campus offers specialized
training for physicians, nurses and technicians from NHC managed wound centers from
around the country.
The University's wound care program is led by eminent wound scientist and professor
Chandan Sen, PhD, and co-led by highly recognized wound care physician Richard Schlanger,
MD, PhD, clinical scientist Gayle Gordillo, MD, and inflammation expert Sashwati
Roy, PhD.
The University of Miami
NHC will open a state-of-the-art outpatient Wound Healing Center at the University
of Miami Hospital in 2010. The flagship acute care hospital of UHealth – University
of Miami Health System, is located on the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
medical campus.
NHC offers its managed wound centers an exclusive rapid
wound pathology service in partnership with the Division of Dermatopathology in the Department of Dermatology
and Cutaneous Surgery at the Miller School of Medicine. The service provides NHC
managed Wound Healing Centers of Excellence with advanced techniques and a resource
of experts to aid in the diagnosis of atypical wounds and identification of effective
courses of treatment.
Robert S. Kirsner, M.D., Stiefel professor and vice chairman of dermatology and
cutaneous surgery at the Miller School of Medicine, chairs the NHC Medical Advisory
Board. In addition to serving as the medical director of the Wound Healing Center
at the University of Miami Hospital, Kirsner takes a leadership role in guiding
clinical and research
activities for NHC's managed wound care centers.
